Letting go of being right...

Hi Reader

I was an expert for many years, I was a consultant, strategist, leader. My superpower was knowing the answers, know what to do. I worked hard to be smart, it was a badge of honour. Then came my kryptonite. Leaders politely listened, nodded and ignored. I blamed them. I doubled down, it was exhausting. The reality, I let my ego get in the way.

Letting go of being right...

For most of your career, you’ve probably been rewarded for having the answers. Knowing the details. Being across everything.

And that worked. Until now.

If you’re scaling a business, that same skillset can hold you back.

In the early days, founders have to be across everything.
At 50 people, you can still keep up.
At 100? Maybe.
Beyond that? Being right no longer serves you.

Many founders burn through their first set of leaders because they can’t let go. They micromanage decisions.

They make sure every meeting proves they’re still the smartest person in the room.

But here’s the shift:

  • The best leaders build the room with people smarter than them.
  • They swap the best answers for the best questions.
  • They turn the spotlight on their team’s ideas.

The release that comes when you let go of being right is profound.

It’s freeing.

It allows you to uplevel as a leader.

It’s also a lot more fun.
